The sun is shining in Western New York, making it the perfect weather to grab your clubs and hit the golf course. Are you looking to find a good course in Ontario County?
Golfweek’s Best 2024 just released its top rankings for the best public golf courses in each state, and Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor ranked 11th out of 15 in the rankings in New York. Here is what you need to know.
Ravenwood Golf Club
Open since 2002, Ravenwood Golf Club is an 18-hole course in the heart of the Finger Lakes region with curved grass tees, greens and fairways, according to the club’s website. The golf club has hosted many USGA and PGA playoffs, as well as hosting the 2003 and 2009 New York Men’s Amateur Golf Championships.
Director of Clubhouse Operations Jennifer Gossage said the club is thrilled to be in Golfweek’s top rankings and that attendees will be able to experience new renovations throughout the year.
“We have a banner year ahead as we unveil our newly renovated clubhouse and unveil our impressive year-round restaurant, Nine Two Nine Bar and Grill,” Gossage wrote in an email. “With an indoor and outdoor bar and a picturesque outdoor patio with fire pit, all overlooking our magnificent golf course, we offer the best of both worlds: the exclusivity of a semi-private club with the warmth of welcoming the public.”
Gossage said the restaurant will open to the public in July.
Ravenwood is described as a full-service golf facility with PGA-certified golf instruction for golfers of all ages and a practice facility.
According to Ravenwood’s website, the club also features a 3,000-square-foot banquet hall that is open year-round and is said to be ideal for weddings, special events, corporate meetings and banquets.

The course also offers youth camps from the first week of July until August.

How do Golfweek ratings work?
According to Golfweek, its ratings are calculated from input from more than 800 evaluators from around the world. These golfers play different courses and rate them based on 10 provided criteria, each on their own 10-point scale. Raters then give each course an overall rating of one to 10, regardless of the criteria provided. Golfweeks Best calculates the average of each overall rating to create an annual score for each design.
The 10 criteria provided include:
Golfweek notes that perfect 10 scores never exist; Only eight courses worldwide on the 2024 top lists scored higher than 9.
An average rating above 8 indicates an incredible golf course. According to Golfweek, anything above a 7 is considered worth traveling great distances to experience, and courses with an average rating of 6 to 7 can be considered the best in most cities.
