It’s been five months since we first shared information about what is believed to be a new Kings jersey for the 2024-25 NHL season.
For those looking to catch up, multiple sources have told Mayor’s Manor to expect a rebrand in the coming months. Our original article mentioned the desire to return to the Kings style of the early ’90s. Next year will bring changes throughout the league, as the NHL will turn to Fanatics as the official jersey supplier, and the contract with Adidas will officially end very soon. soon. However, in general terms, there has been talk of a narrow approach. Teams are expected to have just two jerseys, one home and one away, with a third jersey returning in 2025-26 as Fanatics ramps up its production capabilities.
From what we’ve learned in recent months, the Fanatics’ new jerseys appear to be completely redesigned from the ground up and shouldn’t have the same concerns that Major League Baseball incurred during its changeover last winter.
If you missed our updated article in March, we’re sharing a video from Icethetics detailing some production details surrounding the new NHL jerseys, as well as a mockup of next year’s potential practice jersey:
Similar to what we’ve done before with other t-shirt debuts, we’ve asked our artists to mock up several different versions based on information received from various sources.
For the sake of transparency, we still believe that when the new Kings jersey is officially revealed, it will look more like the first competition we introduced back in December:
However, we wanted to put together some other compositions to get some alternative views. As such, we turned to ALoImages to make another t-shirt mockup. The latter is based on some shield designs we first explored when the Reverse Retro project was in its early stages.
According to SportsLogos.net, from 1975 to 1987 the Kings had a purple and gold version of this shield as part of their official logo package, although they never used it on their jerseys. A silver version, similar to the one used below, was added in 1987. However, again, it was never used on a t-shirt. It was slightly modified into what officially debuted in 1988 and was used for most of the ‘Gretzky Era’. Is that what the Kings will do with their next rebrand? Most likely.
If they wanted to do something different, they could resurrect that 1987 look, as shown on the shirt below.
Perhaps this would be a new look that unites several eras of the franchise.
NOTE: The new Kings jersey will most likely share the same crest on both the home and away jerseys. That’s standard practice. We use two slightly different crests above for illustrative purposes only.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Kings’ deal with Mercury Insurance for a jersey patch is still in effect for next season. As we reported last summer, this is a multi-year deal for the black home jersey. As of this writing, the Kings do not yet have a sponsor for a patch on their white jerseys. That could change for next season.
Last we checked, helmet sponsors with American Express and Blue Shield are also expected to be around for next season.
If we can get more information on what the actual jersey will look like, we’ll be sure to pass it on to you.
Until then, we’ll close with another nugget. From what we’ve heard, Reign won’t be changing its main shield next season. They will continue to use a “crossed-out version” of the 90s-era crest.
