Florida Panthers ownership is in the spotlight as the Sunrise-based team becomes the latest Stanley Cup winner.
The Panthers won the NHL championship title thanks to a 2-1 victory Monday night against the Edmonton Oilers, marking the Florida team’s first championship title and a great achievement for its players, coaches and owners for equal.
Sunrise Sports & Entertainment and Florida Panthers President, Owner and Governor Vincent Viola told KeynoteUSA6 that his team winning the Cup was a “surreal feeling.”

Viola bought the Panthers about 11 years ago, according to the team’s ownership web page.

He has extensive business experience that includes co-founding the financial services company Virtu Financial in 2008. He also chaired the New York Mercantile Exchange from 2001 to 2004.
Viola has invested in other parts of the sports world. She also races horses through her St. Elias Stables, according to the Panthers’ website.
KeynoteUSA reported that he has a personal fortune valued at $3.9 billion.

The Panthers’ team ownership website also lists Douglas Cifu as vice president, partner and alternate governor of Sunrise Sports & Entertainment and the team.

Cifu is a co-founder of Virtu Financial and leads it as CEO. He previously worked as a lawyer for almost two decades.
The Panthers have been competing in the NHL for 30 years. They originally belonged to AutoNation founder Wayne Huizenga.

Before winning this year’s Stanley Cup, the team had played in the final round of the playoffs twice, including 1996 and 2023.
The team was worth approximately $775 million in 2023, according to KeynoteUSA.
