While there was no runaway No. 1 pick heading into the 2024 NBA Draft, France was back on the marquee this year, as it was last year. After Victor Wembanyama was the prize of the 2023 draft, four French players, led by No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher to Atlanta and followed by Alex Sarr to the Wizards at No. 2, were selected on the first night of the NBA Draft.
College stars like Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard (No. 3, Rockets), UConn’s Donovan Clingan (No. 7, Trail Blazers) and Purdue’s Zach Edey (No. 9, Memphis) were named early on. While there weren’t many surprises in Round 1, Tennessee star and 2024 SEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year Dalton Knecht went 17th overall to the Los Angeles Lakers.
You can check out the analysis of all 30 first-round picks here. For the first time, the NBA Draft will be spread over two days, with the second round taking place on Thursday at 4:00 pm ET.

The first USC player off the board, not Bronny James, but Isaiah Collier, is headed to the Utah Jazz with the 29th pick.
Yahoo Sports Commentary
Draft qualification: TO-
Pre-draft standings: 18
School: USC
Height: Sixty-five”
Weight: 210
The fact that Collier fell so far in the draft after entering this past college season as the No. 1 recruit out of high school is shocking. The biggest gap in his game is his outside jump shot and his turnovers during his year at USC. Where he does stand out is in the open court and he has great body control around the rim. With the spacing and pace of the NBA game, he could be a bargain for the Jazz.

Dadiet is one of the youngest players in the draft, he is still 18 years old and will be a draft development project and reserve for the Knicks. With the 23rd pick the Bucks selected AJ Johnson
Yahoo Sports Commentary
Johnson’s upside as a 6-foot-5 combo guard is very intriguing, and he’s a player who has been in the gym training with Rockets guard Jalen Green since eighth grade. They have similar mannerisms as playmakers, and Johnson is still such a raw prospect, but he could end up being one of the best players in this draft within two or three years.

Yahoo Sports Commentary
Draft qualification: B+
Pre-draft standings: 23
School: Baylor
Height: 7′ 0″

Missi still has plenty of room to grow after his year at Baylor, but the flashes he showed defending the block and running the floor well in transition scream upside as a top rim rusher in the NBA at 7 feet.

Tyson was one of the Pac-12’s best scorers and can do a little bit of everything very well. He is strong on the ball, cuts well and finishes through contact, but his mobility in defense and his ability to keep players in front still needs some work.

Yahoo Sports Commentary
Draft qualification: B+
Pre-draft standings: 19
School: Baylor
Height: Sixty-five”
Weight: 195
Walter has solid size for a 6-foot-5 guard and showed more promise off the rebound during his year at Baylor. His three-point shooting was a little inconsistent during his first season at Baylor, but the space in the NBA will allow him to pursue better, higher-percentage shots.

Weight: 242
Ware really made a leap in improvement from his freshman year at Oregon to his sophomore season at Indiana, showing more potential as a great pick-and-roll player while putting pressure on the rim.
