During the recent Ally 400, Kyle Busch experienced another bad day that seemed to compound an already challenging 2024 NASCAR season. Starting from the 27th position, Busch’s race literally went off the track from the first green flag stop when he overshot his pit stop, a mistake that hampered any real chance of moving through the pack.
“This is complete garbage,” Busch declared over his team radio, a comment that reflects broader problems with the No. 8 car he has been driving this season. The car has consistently lacked speed and handling, leading to a series of poor performances by the two-time Cup champion. In three of the last four races, the Nevada driver finished a disappointing 35th place, which highlights a pattern of frustration for the NASCAR veteran.
“We just have to stop the bleeding. I think I’ve been saying that for the last six months, so it hasn’t stopped. In the last week, it’s been gushing pretty hard,” Busch explained in an interview with Bob FOX Sports’ Pockrass (below).

The fight isn’t just about one or two bad races. Specific incidents in recent weeks, such as a crash at Gateway due to aggressive driving, a mechanical failure at Iowa and another crash at Loudon influenced by bad weather conditions, have increased the difficulty.

“We were running better than we should have at Gateway, but we crashed. We were running better than we should have at Iowa and we had a piece fail,” Busch said, highlighting the increasing challenges that have plagued his season.
Another factor contributing to the confusion was the recent retirement of Andy Petree, the team’s competition director, which indicated adjustments are being made within the struggling team that could also be affecting performance.
As the playoffs approach, there is growing concern within the NASCAR community about whether Busch and his team can find their footing. Despite some flashes of potential improvement, consistent performance gains have yet to materialize.
Busch continued: “I’ve also been hit every week. So that’s probably part of it.”
This season presents a discouraging outlook for a driver known for his high performance and endurance behind the wheel. With issues ranging from technical issues to the psychological impact of repeated setbacks, the road ahead for Kyle Busch remains uncertain. And as the NASCAR world watches, the pressure is mounting on him and his team to not only perform, but to overcome a series of obstacles that have made the 2024 season one of the most difficult.
This means the remainder of his 2024 campaign will be critical, not only to salvage this season’s record, but possibly to set a new course that can mitigate the “bleed” that has so clearly defined his efforts thus far. It remains to be seen if this change is possible, but for Kyle Busch, each race has now become a crucial step towards recovering what he has lost so far.
