Jasson Dominguez made his major league debut in 2023. However, his chances of returning to the major leagues in 2024 took a hit with the news that his oblique strain is expected to require eight weeks on the disabled list.
He has a lot of company. Right now, more than 25% of Baseball America’s top 100 prospects are either on the disabled list, on a rehab assignment returning from a stint on the disabled list, or have just returned after a long stint on the injured list. Currently, 26 of the top 100 are inactive or rehabbing and two others just returned from their stints on the IL.
Seven of Baseball America’s current top 11 are on the injured list, or in the case of No. 2 prospect James Wood and No. 7 prospect Walker Jenkins, just off the injured list. There are 11 of the top 25 prospects who are or were recently sick and 16 of the top 50.
No. 1 prospect Paul Skenes, No. 5 prospect Dylan Crews and No. 9 prospect Noah Schultz are the only three Top 10 prospects to have avoided the IL entirely in the first half of the 2024 season.
Here’s a look at the 28 top 100 prospects who are currently on the injured list or fresh off a long stint on the disabled list.
