INF Luis Urías approved waivers and went to Triple-A Tacoma
OAKLAND, California— Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:
· Victor Robles (#10)OF, signed a major league contract and was added to the active roster.
· Luis UriasINF, beaten to Triple-A Tacoma.
The Mariners’ 40-player Major League roster remains complete at 40 players.
Oak trees (ROBE-lace), 27, was designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals on May 27 and released on June 1. In 14 games this season with Washington, he hit .120 (3×25) with 3 runs, 2 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. . He also appeared in 6 games with Triple-A Rochester on a rehab assignment recovering from a left hamstring strain, batting .350 (7×20) with 4 runs, 1 double, 1 triple, 3 RBI, 1 stolen base and an OPS of .935.
The 6-foot, 195-pound outfielder has appeared in parts of 8 major league seasons with Washington (2017-2024), hitting .236 (380×1610) with 213 runs, 78 doubles, 11 triples, 31 home runs, 156 RBIs and 70 stolen bases, getting on base at a rate of .31 and slugging of .356 (OPS of .667). Robles was part of the Nationals’ 2019 World Series-winning team as a rookie.
Robles has played all 3 outfield positions in his career, spending most of his time in center field, where he is a two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award finalist (2019 and 2022). He has a career mark of 31 putouts above average according to Baseball Savant. He is a career .262 hitter (122×466) against left-handed pitching, with 23 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs, 42 RBI and a .727 OPS.
The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was ranked as a top 25 prospect in the Major Leagues by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline from 2017 to 2019. He was ranked the No. 5 overall prospect prior to the 2018 season by Baseball America, and the No. 4 overall prospect entering the 2019 season by MLB Pipeline.
Uriah, 27, was traded to Triple-A Tacoma on May 24. In 7 games with Tacoma, Urías is hitting .250 (6×24) with 6 runs, 1 home run, 5 RBI, 6 walks and an OPS of .762. In 34 major league games with the Mariners, Urías hit
.152 (12×79) with 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 12 RBI and a .580 OPS in 34 games with the Mariners this season.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound infielder appeared in parts of 7 major league seasons with San Diego (2018-19), Milwaukee (2020-23), Boston (2023), and Seattle (2024), batting .230 (343×1491) with 200 runs, 65 doubles, 4 triples, 51 home runs and 192 RBIs, getting on base at a rate of .330 and slugging percentage of .382 with an OPS of .711. He was acquired by Seattle on November 17, 2023 from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for RHP Isaiah Campbell.
