Wolverine on replacing 5 starters on Michigan football’s offensive line and weapons in TE room I #GoBlue
There are 60 days left until the defending national champion is announced Michigan Wolverines The football team takes the field in the opening game on August 31 against Fresno StateEach day until then, we’ll be looking at current Michigan events, the upcoming season, and/or analyzing a significant number that correlates to the number of days until kickoff, whether it’s a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.
Michigan has some compelling data it can show prospective transfer students about the impact new players can have on a great team. Look no further than last season, when the Wolverines had nine transfer players join the program, all of whom played critical roles in one way or another.
The Corn and the Blue had transfers occupying different positions on the field, with two offensive line starters in the center. Drake Nugent and left tackle The Darius Hendersona starting tight end in AJ Barnera starting cornerback in Josh Wallacedefensive role players at EDGE Josaiah Stewart and supporter Ernest Hausmanna top-level kicker in James Turner and substitutes at the quarterback position Jack Tuttle and offensive tackle Myles Hintonwho started five games. All nine were in second place on the depth chart.
In total, Michigan transfer players played 4,165 snaps for a team that won the national championship with a 15-0 record. Pretty impressive.

Well, Michigan’s transfer players were able to play early and often, and the team won by a lot (as much as it could). However, the group also developed, which was one of the key points each player mentioned when talking about why they chose the Wolverines.
Barner is the best example of that, as he went from being a solid tight end at Indiana to being selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks after one season with the Wolverines. He wasn’t even the team’s standout tight end, as he’s now a third-year player. Colston Loveland racking up 649 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns to Barner’s 249 yards and 1 score.
Meanwhile, Henderson was also selected in the seventh round of the Draft by the Houston Texans. Three other players, Nugent (Packers), Wallace (Rams) and Turner (Packers), are currently on NFL rosters after going undrafted.
Stewart, Hausmann and Hinton are projected as starters for Michigan this fall, and Tuttle is in the mix for the starting quarterback job after missing spring practice with an injury.
Life is good for the Wolverines’ transfer portal imports.
