As a result of the altercation and subsequent punishment for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and kyle busch, Joey Logano is looking for a little more coherence on the part of NASCAR Decision makers.
Speaking with FOX’s Bob Pockrass, who gauged the feelings of a slew of drivers in the wake of the controversial altercation, the two-time Cup champion talked about Stenhouse Jr.’s inflated fine, and even recalled Denny Hamlin skipping the restart. in Richmond, believing NASCAR needs stricter guidelines moving forward.
“Whether it’s the car, the restarts or the altercations apparently, just let me know the rules, that’s what I want to know,” Logano said. “What is the price I am about to pay if I make this decision? It’s worth it?
“That’s how it really has to be, just looking for consistency in that so it’s the same all the time, and I know that’s hard to do. It’s a lot to ask because each situation can be a little different. It’s a matter of judgment. There is no black and white. When you look at a post-ace altercation, at what point is it sometimes okay and sometimes not? I don’t know.”
Logano highlights some highlights. At the end of the day, it’s hard to follow the rules if you don’t know exactly what they are, and sometimes it seems like NASCAR makes them up as they go along. The driver of No. 22 simply wants to know the parameters and whether or not they are worth breaking.
Additionally, another driver who did not make the punishment easy in NASCAR was Chase Elliott. The sport’s most popular helmsman even questioned why Stenhouse Jr.’s fine was so high, believing it was too high by NASCAR decision makers.
“Wow, that seems like a lot to me,” Elliott said when he found out the total of Stenhouse Jr.’s fine, via Racing America’s Toby Christie. Are you going to fine him, but are you going to promote with it? What are we doing? That’s a little strange to me. That’s a lot of money to fine a guy.
“It’s not good, but we’ll spread it everywhere to get more clicks. “I really don’t agree with that.”
That’s been the thought process of a lot of hosts and media members, from Daniel Suarez to Keynote USA’s Ryan McGee. Still, the fine stood and Stenhouse Jr. sat back and allowed everything to happen, including a mini fight with Richard Childress of all people.
Going forward, Joey Logano surely speaks for many in the garage when he calls for more consistency from NASCAR, so we’ll see if the decision makers decide on some better-enforced rules after what we witnessed at North Wilkesboro.
