How far golfers will go to make a birdie.
Isi Gabsa’s ball may have killed, or at least seriously injured, a birdie on the 12th hole Thursday during the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.
It’s unclear if Gabsa yelled “before” before his Randy Johnson impression.
“On the list of strange things we’ve seen on the 12th hole, this one is kind of sad, it takes the cake,” Brandel Chamblee said during Peacock/Golf Channel’s Golf Central Live broadcast. “Just a bird sitting on the green, minding its own business.”
“Brutal,” added co-host Kira K. Dixon. “That’s nothing you want to see on the golf course.”
In a scene straight out of “Caddyshack,” or the latest season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Gabsa seemingly took the life of a bird by exiting the par-3 12th hole and hitting a drive toward the green.
Unfortunately, the ball’s path was interrupted by a bird in mid-flight.

The ball collided with the bird, deflecting to the right as the bird fell to the ground.
The bird was lying face down (or, to be frank, dead) before a tournament official walked over and picked it up with his bare hands to carry it off the field.

Germany’s Gabsa persevered through the awkward moment to make par.
The scene recalled Johnson’s famous spring training incident in 2001, when the Hall of Famer, then with the Diamondbacks, killed a bird with a pitch, with the creature’s white feathers exploding from its body as a Collective “Ohh” echoed through the crowd. in Arizona.
“I didn’t think it was that funny,” Johnson said, according to KeynoteUSA.

Catcher Rod Barajas added: “I’m sitting there waiting, waiting to catch the thing, and all you see is an explosion. It’s crazy. “There are still feathers down there.”
Many X users joked Thursday about the comparisons.
“Randy Johnson is smiling somewhere,” KeynoteUSA’ Patrick McDonald tweeted.
The 12th hole is seemingly straight out of hell for this year’s entrants, with tournament favorite Nelly Korda posting a horrendous 10-over par that could possibly ruin her chances of winning.
