Gerald Rowlett of Westlake Development Group, who has been building custom homes throughout the Pacific Northwest for 35 years, doesn’t play golf, but he knows a stellar property when he sees one. He recently purchased part of a former West Linn golf course that he will transform into a development with two fairways in the backyard.
The 13-acre lot at 29435 SW Mountain Road is for sale for $5,999,000 to $6,999,000, depending on the buyer’s desires for a 7,000-square-foot custom home. Large windows and easy indoor-outdoor living will allow residents to become “enveloped by the serene views,” Rowlett said.
The plot forms part of the gated Sandelie golf course in the sought after area of Stafford. “This is already a destination for golfers,” Rowlett told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “Imagine the advantage someone practicing daily would have if they played outside the back door.”
At 405 feet wide and more than a quarter-mile long, the land with a robust well can be farmed or used for hobbies and interests such as horseback riding or playing polo, said brokers Thomas Cale and Justin Krug of Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty.
A barn, pool and outdoor entertaining areas may also be added, and the land can be expanded to 28 acres with the purchase of an adjacent 15-acre parcel, brokers said.
“Westlake is ready to build a home in any style you choose,” Cale and Krug said. “Select a plan already created or let your imagination fly.” National award-winning home designer Michael Barclay of Barclay Home Design will work with the buyer to create the architectural plans.

Krug’s research found that participation in golf is increasing: 45 million Americans will play in 2023, according to the National Golf Foundation.
“With Shortland Golf Club less than a mile away, along with nearby Kohl Creek Golf Course, you can go from 19 holes to nine and even two on your own property,” Krug told the Oregonian/OregonLive.
He added that the future owner could be someone who longs for the space to expand, with easy access to the Willamette River, wineries and parks. “In addition to the versatility of the land and location, the buyer will enjoy an incredible custom home,” he said.
