I remember growing up in the 90s and 2000s and always hearing about the great atmosphere at Memorial Stadium. It was hard for opposing teams to come in and get a win.
That layer has been peeling off little by little. Arguably the first blow to the idea that Nebraska is a tough place to play came in a victory.
In 1998, Nebraska beat Louisiana Tech 56-27. However, Troy Edwards ended up setting an NCAA record with 405 receiving yards for Louisiana Tech.
That’s when playing at Memorial Stadium might not have started to seem so daunting.
We can list home losses to teams like Georgia Southern in 2022 as the most recent example.
Anyway, if you still think Nebraska is one of the toughest places to play, then I think you’re thinking of a bygone era.
That being said, you might not think that Memorial Stadium in Lincoln is one of the top 10 toughest places, but surely it’s in the top 15? Well, EA Sports doesn’t even think it’s in the Top 25.
EA Sports College Football 25, the new video game scheduled for release in July, has revealed the game’s rankings for the toughest places to play in college football. It takes into account historical home winning percentage, home attendance, and more.

I may have some issues with some of the ones on the list, but do I think Memorial Stadium has earned a spot in the top 25? Absolutely not.
Start winning games and we can have this discussion again.
