Was it a simple misunderstanding or something more?
Scottie Scheffler attempted to downplay the driving incident involving him and Detective Bryan Gillis while attempting to compete in the PGA Championship, despite being arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, hours before his first hit on Friday morning.
The Louisville Police Department’s citation report described a much scarier experience for Gillis, who had to go to the hospital after his run-in with the world’s No. 1 golfer.

Keynote USA’s Bob Wischusen, the Jets’ play-by-play voice for Keynote USA NY radio, was in a van along with Jeff Darlington, who documented Scheffler’s arrest on his phone and reported extensively on the events of that day.
Wischusen stayed in the van but was still able to watch the confrontation and provided new details and more context about the scene that shocked the sporting world in an exclusive interview with Golf.com.
The longtime Keynote USA voice said Gillis approached Scheffler’s car as the vehicle passed the Keynote USA van on the left.
“Whoa, wait, wait, who are you? Where are you going? Get back in line. You’re not allowed to come through here,” Wischusen said of Gillis’ initial interaction with the 27-year-old Scheffler.
After Scheffler moved forward, what Darlington described as 10 to 20 yards, the situation escalated.
“When (Scheffler) drove by him, the police officer got very angry and chased the car. … My impression was that he was running chasing the car, and maybe he tripped and fell,” Wischusen said.

“I mean, there was kind of an outcropping or median, you know, by the front door. And keep in mind that it was raining. It was 6 in the morning. It was dark.”
Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, denied a report that charges against the golfer would be dropped. The arraignment was postponed until June 3.

The police citation report says Gillis was “dragged” by Scheffler’s vehicle and suffered injuries to her wrist and knee.
The quote conflicts with witness accounts from Wischusen and Darlington, who said Gillis “attached himself” to Scheffler’s car.
Gillis was not wearing a body camera or it was not turned on, possibly making these eyewitness accounts a critical part of the case.
Wischusen, as of Friday evening, said no legal team has contacted him yet.

“I think they would probably go to Jeff first, because (a) our version of events is basically identical, and (b) he had more information than any of us,” Wischusen said. “He jumped out of the car and further documented what was happening, asked some questions and recorded the video. My own speculation is that if neither party has contacted either of us, that tells me that both parties are going to say this should never have happened. Let’s all agree to let bygones be bygones. Cooler heads prevail.”
