There has been a lot of discussion about Hafley’s aggressive defensive scheme and his vulnerability to big plays. Joe Barry’s plan was based on avoiding big plays, but they still happened too often. Is it an oversimplification to suggest that the defense is no more at risk of making a big play than in recent seasons, but gets the benefits of a more aggressive scheme?
Only time will tell. But if you’ve spent several years emphasizing one thing and you don’t understand it, I don’t blame anyone for trying to emphasize something else.
Hello II. I don’t know if this has been answered already, but how well protected from piracy are playbooks if they are on tablets? Also, what would you think the punishment would be for an organization that tried to obtain this information? Thanks for II, I always look forward to my daily “fix”.
Considering how many security hoops I have to jump through here just to schedule my vacation or fill out an expense report, I can guarantee you that those tablets are as unhackable as they look. They can also be locked away and deleted remotely if lost.
All the talk about playbooks makes me think: If you take the QB out of the equation, what position group requires the most cerebral players? O line? Secondary? Something I’m not considering? I’d love to hear your opinion here.
There is a larger mental component to each position at this level compared to what players are used to, but receivers (route selection and route adjustments), offensive linemen (switches and blitz pickups), and DBs (different coverage concepts and pass routes) He’s probably at the top for me.

Follow-up plus question to my post yesterday about flying sports equipment. The 7 foot man I mentioned was David Robinson. He had never seen someone so exhausted and at the same time uncomfortably crammed into his second-row seat. His knees seemed to be level with his shoulders. He played 43 minutes in PHX, stats 34p + 14r. Then he had to get up around 4am for our 6am commercial flight to SLC, connecting to SEA. That night he had 39 + 11, in the game 65. For me that is superhuman. What stories can you share about the Packers?
I remember early in my time here in 2007, I was in the locker room right after a blowout win over the Vikings and I saw Ryan Grant, who had just carried 25 times for 119 yards, taking off his jersey and shoulder pads. His upper body looked as if he had spent two weeks in a torture chamber. Bruises, scrapes, cuts, you name it. All complete and unsightly, to be honest. Seven days later, he rushed 20 more times for 88 yards against Carolina.
II, with all the questions about sub-.500 division winners making the playoffs, I was wondering what the best record is for a team that didn’t make the playoffs.
ATMR (WCBW), two 11-5 teams missed the playoffs: the 2008 Patriots and the 2085 Broncos. From 1990 to 2019, when six teams from each conference qualified, I found 11 teams with 10-5 records. 6 who were left out. After the merger and before 1978, with a 14-game schedule in which only four teams per conference (three division champions, one wild card) qualified, I found five 10-4 teams that were left out: Miami and Houston in 1975 , St. Louis and Cincinnati in ’76 and Miami again in ’77.
If a 16-team playoff is inevitable, do you think there’s a chance the league will say the top two teams in each division make the playoffs regardless of records? Not unlike protected division champions.
No, I don’t see that that is the format. They would add another wild card based on overall record and the usual tiebreakers. In my opinion, the 16-team field would not only eliminate byes in the playoffs, but it would severely devalue the NFL regular season.
Brookfield’s Lori refers to Jordan Love’s contract status as “undetermined,” but I thought they gave him a two-year extension last year and are now working on a long-term deal, right?
Yes, and now that Love’s current contract leaves him severely underpaid for next season, a new one is in the works. But I’ll repeat what I said the other day: I’m not worried about this being done in her own time. In my opinion, the new contract not being fulfilled is not a story unless it has not yet been completed well in training camp.

We all know that football is a business. So why aren’t more players refraining from signing contracts? Or, put another way, why wouldn’t it be best for a player to hit free agency rather than sign early and let the market increase the price of him, even if he intends to re-sign with his actual team?
Risk of injury. It is greater in this sport than in any other.
Thanks to Jim from Cadott, WI for the tip on cooking crappie. Uh, more like the tip for cooking crappie. However, if the “asparagus in a brat” man agrees, I may hesitate about the cornmeal.
Well done, and with that I’m off to find some shit myself. Everyone enjoy the long weekend. Happy Friday.
