Layne Riggs decided to return fire NASCAR for the penalty he received during the Truck Series’ Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday night.
Riggs was fighting with Stefan Parsons throughout the night, and the duo faced each other several times on the floor. Multiple rounds of battle between them. Then, Riggs gave him a push and sent Parsons over. NASCAR then penalized him for two laps, believing he had wrecked it on purpose.
Of course, it completely changed the complexion of Riggs’ night, and he referenced a double standard while speaking to FOX’s Bob Pockrass after the race, giving multiple examples of Cup Series drivers who weren’t penalized for similar maneuvers. .
“I’ve never seen that before,” Riggs said, regarding the penalty. “I watch the Cup Series every weekend. I see people get into this here and there, and you know, it wasn’t like I hit him into the wall. You know, I went into the corner and I gave him a push back. You know, he made us go down the track three times. Underneath me, he said I was too free under me, so why did you go into the corner under me if you were too free? You just killed our whole left side. You ruined the handling. It wasn’t the same the rest of the race.
“So I don’t agree with the decision at all, especially when people you admire who run on Sundays do the same thing on Sunday afternoons.”
Moving forward, how will Riggs handle his business on the track now? He’s simply not going to touch anyone, as he believes NASCAR’s decision was so far from the right one that it will deter him from seeking revenge ever again.
“I guess you don’t have to touch anybody now,” Riggs said. “It’s tough, when you see everyone around you doing it, you know, and I just wanted to move on and finish what I started on the race track. Leave it at that. You know, go on with our day. I didn’t think it was worth the penalty at all.
“But yeah, I definitely want to talk to Seth and everyone at NASCAR, just to find out, I mean, what am I doing wrong? I’m told, obviously, that the right rear hook is prohibited. We’ve seen Chase Elliott get suspended for it. We’ve seen, you know, Bubba (Wallace) get suspended for it. We’ve seen a lot of that on Sundays. I understand it, but he was nowhere near that.”
More about Stefan Parsons and Layne Riggs
As you can see, Rackley Roofing 200 brought out the emotions of Layne Riggs and Stefan Parsons. It’s safe to say they don’t agree with each other. These two NASCAR drivers got into an argument on pit road, but they didn’t get out of it.
Parsons felt he had to go talk to Riggs after the race, and it didn’t seem like he ended up resolving their issues between them. Watch the video below from Devin Kupka.
Unfortunately, it is very interesting to see how Parsons approached the situation. Apparently, he had no intention of contacting Riggs all those times, but he was fighting a truck that wasn’t handling well. Riggs doesn’t seem to believe it too much.
In the end, both drivers are looking to run well each week. They are young and looking for more opportunities, Parsons in particular. This incident between the two is probably due to two pilots fighting too much. I’m not sure we need to or will see more of this rivalry.
