Kyle Busch may be stealing all the headlines right now for getting his face smashed in, but make no mistake: Bubba Wallace is still the most divisive driver in the NASCAR garage.
Frankly, it’s not very close. You either love Bubba or you hate him more than anything in the world. There is no middle ground. None.
Ever since that fake noose was found hanging in his garage in 2020, he’s been Mr. Polarizer. Personally, I think it’s a bad rap because I blame NASCAR 100% for that debacle, but when I say that, you all yell at me, which shows how divided the fan base is when it comes to Bubba.
Now, I have no problem calling his attention to it. Do not misunderstand. I think he’s probably the most dramatic driver in the series. I think he’d probably agree with me on that too. But when it comes to content?
There isn’t a single person in the garage who produces better content on a weekly basis than Bubba Wallace.
Exhibit A:
Take a ride through the NASCAR countryside with Bubba Wallace
I mean, come on, that’s a good thing. Love him or hate him, that’s Bubba’s A+ work. What did Dale Earnhardt once say?
“It doesn’t matter if they’re booing or cheering, as long as they’re making noise.”
Amen brother. It’s very true, and it’s especially true in NASCAR. This is a sport desperately trying to not only stay afloat, but grow. They were very down for years (probably a decade or more) and I feel like it’s been a slow but steady climb to the top.
Ratings are decent (for 2024, of course), and the stands have been pretty full for most of this season.
Do you know what most of the world was talking about on Monday? The fight between Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. That’s good. More of that, please.
As for Bubba…again, he’s about as polarizing as it gets. He has been booed week after week more than any other driver. Denny Hamlin is probably a close second.
But do you know who moves the needle more than anyone else in NASCAR? Denny Hamlin…. and Bubba Wallace.
Chase Elliott is the most popular driver in the sport, but guys like Denny, Bubba and Kyle Busch make the guys in the analytics department smile. I’ve seen the numbers, so trust me on this one.
Look at the tweet above… it took about four seconds to go viral. Mega views. The comments section is a wasteland. It’s chaos.
But you have to give Bubba Wallace credit, whether we like it or not, for taking it all in stride. The guy can be a basket case sometimes – no one gets out of a car after a big race and acts more exhausted/defeated like Bubba – but solid content like this makes it worth it.
PS: The “Fuck these motherfuckers” guy is electric. What an exemplary
